Rahul Dravid
The full name of Dravid is Rahul Sharad Dravid. He was born on 11th of January in the year 1973. After the World Cup of 1996, Dravid was introduced to the Indian cricket team. He made his debut in the test cricket along with Saurav Ganguly in the England tour of India. He came to the team in the place of Sanjay Manjarekar, who was suffering from injury problems. Since then, he became a regular player in Team India. He captained the team from October 2005 till the month of September of 2007.
In the year 2000, his name came in the top five Wisden Cricketers of that particular year. In the 2004 award ceremony of ICC, this particular player got the award of the ICC Player of the year and also the best test player of that year. He also has the record of taking the maximum the number catches in the Test cricket. On 7th August in 2011, he got a call for playing in the one day squad against England. He declared his retirement from ODI and T20 international cricket after this series.
Dravid is well known for his batting techniques. He always follows the grammar of cricket and follows the text book shots of cricket. He always plays with full confidence and hardly plays risky shots during his batting innings. He is one of the most dependable and steady batsman in the Indian cricket history. He has got certain nicknames. They are Mr. Dependable, The Wall and Jammy. This 5 feet 11 inches tall cricket has played wonderful innings in both test and ODIs. After Sachin Tendulkar, he is the only Indian Cricketer to reach the milestone of twelve thousand runs in test cricket. He has scored century in al the ten playing nations. He is the first and the only cricketer to achieve this particular record. In ODI, Dravid has got more than ten thousands runs. He has a record for taking more than 200 catches in test cricket.
This particular cricketer was born in Indore which is located in Madhya Pradesh. Then his family shifted to Karnataka. He was brought in Bangalore. Rahul’s father used to work n Kissan Compnay which produced jellies, jams and other preserves. He was sent to St. Josephs Boy’s High School where he was nicknamed Jammy. His mother’s name is Pushpa who is an ex professor in the University of Bangalore. On 4th of May in the year 2003, Dravid got married to VIjeta Pendharkar who is surgeon by profession. The couple has got two children Anvay and Samit.
