Trevor Bayliss, has brought an aggressive mentality with himself

The coach of the England Cricket team, Trevor Bayliss, has brought an aggressive mentality with himself.

Addressing his very first press conference as the Three Lions boss, the Aussie made clear he wanted some ‘fire’ off the England players.

That showed in England’s performance in Cardiff. Everyone was up and ready for the task. There were counter attacks with both bat and ball.

Even Alastair Cook, who is known to be slightly cautious in his game, was ready to take on the opposition.

Cook going down the track and going for the lofted shot against a spinner is a rare sight in test match Cricket.

But, he was regularly trying to do so in the first test match.

He couldn’t succeed though, but, the intent was there.

However, earlier today while talking to the reporters, Bayliss said it’s not necessary for somebody like Cook to tinker with his natural game just for the sake of being aggressive.

According to Bayliss, the England skipper has spent whole his career being solid and he should continue that way as that would give the rest of the guys the freedom to play around him. (more…)

Darren Lehmann has backed the Queenslander Usman Khawaja

Darren Lehmann has backed the Queenslander Usman Khawaja to do well and establish himself in the Australian test team.

Khawaja has been recalled by the selectors for the Bangladesh series and it’s believed he will bat one down with Steven Smith getting slightly down the order to fill in the no. 4 position vacated by Michael Clarke.

Khawaja averages just a touch over 25 in the 9 test matches that he has featured in so far, but, those who follow his Cricket closely believes he is a much better player than that and Lehmann also has the same view about the stylish left hander.

In an interview to a sports website after returning from the Ashes tour, Lehmann said, “I am really excited to have the opportunity to mentor some of these youngsters coming in. They are all hugely talented and it would be immense fun to work alongside them and help them understand their game better and bring good results to the team.” (more…)

Mitchell Starc should give some credit for his recent rise

Mitchell Starc should give some credit for his recent rise in international Cricket to Shane Warne too.

If Warne had not made that sort of comment on him in the test series, he might not have got that extra motivation and energy to show his capability to the entire world.

What a bowler he emerged out as in the second half of the summer, the New South Welshman.

Not only did he make Warne eat his words at the end of the summer, he established himself as probably the best bowler of the Australian team in limited-over Cricket.

The steam that he showed in all the games in the World Cup and even before that in the triangular series too, it was incredible.

It was like as if he was eager to prove that he was a ferocious fast bowler and not the soft one which Warne described him as in the middle of the Border-Gavaskar series.

Now, Starc’s aim should be to perform in the test matches as well in the same way as he has done in limited-over Cricket.

In test matches where there is a bit more patience needed, a bit more skill needed, Starc has faltered so far. (more…)

Shane Warne confident on Autralia to Win Title this Year

Shane Warne is very confident about Australia becoming the World Champions again.

The reason behind Warne’s confidence is the no. of match winners that the Kangaroos have got.

According to Warne, there have been some very good Australian teams in the past as well, but, none of them had as much firepower as this current lot has.

Australia has already won three World Cups before, more than any other team in the history of the game.

The current edition is taking place in their home conditions. So, it would not be surprising if they take that tally to four in a few weeks’ time.

The presence of the all rounders in the squad is what makes Australia an almost unbeatable team at this point in time. (more…)

Mitchell Starc took dig at Warne

Mitchell Starc yesterday took a dig at Shane Warne for what the Champion leg spinner had said about him during the second test match of the recently finished Border-Gavaskar series.

Starc had bowled some real bad deliveries on the first day of that game there in Brisbane and Warne had slammed him speaking on Channel 9 after the day’s play.

Warne had said that Starc should not have been that soft.

The word ‘soft’ did not go down very well with some of the well wishers of Starc including the Australian coach Darren Lehmann. (more…)

Angelo Mathews Superb Knock Against India

Angelo Mathews’ superb half century against India at the Sardar Patel Stadium went in vain as his team lost for the second time in a row against the home side. Mathews who had batted one position down in the previous game came in at his usual number yesterday and stabilized the Sri Lankan ship which was sinking quite fast.

He could not get to his hundred, but, his 92 runs were invaluable considering the pressure which he was in when he had made his way to the crease.

He was not on attack, neither was he too defensive. He manoeuvred the Indian spinners and then, in the batting power play, he targeted certain bowlers, whom he thought, were not bowling particularly well.

Then, when Sri Lanka lost some wickets in succession in the death, he pulled himself back a little bit again and made sure he batted for full 50 overs.

Dhammika Prasad, the tail-ender, supported him at the end there. He scored some handy runs which dragged the score past 270 which looked competitive on that wicket which was dry and thus, was believed to be going to spin.

With the ball though, Sri Lanka could not deliver. There was movement under the lights. With a bit of coolness in the air, the quickies were getting the white ball to nip around.

The visitors were unlucky not to get Shikhar Dhawan out early as the umpire Bruce Oxenford could not pick a clear nick.

However, that does not mean the Sri Lankan bowling was overall good. It wasn’t, especially the spin bowling. The spinners did not pitch too many balls in good areas. Seekuge Prasanna got three wickets, but, it was more due to the recklessness of the batsmen, not due to the quality in his deliveries.
